About the Shrine
A small shrine located in the center of Tenjin between a landscape of office buildings. The name "Suikyo" literally means "water mirror".
The shrine is dedicated to the God of Literature and Calligraphy - Michizane Sugiwara. It is said that when he was exiled to Dazaifu he saw his reflection on the Shiju river around this location.
The shrine was relocated here from Imaizumi in 1612 by Kuroda Nagamasa and is said to originally date back to the 900's.
